17th Oct – 16h Dec 2014: South Korean Drama series “Incomplete Life” | 미생) onair…

I fell over this new TV series on Korean TV… the series is available online, too (first 12 episodes of 16 here). Yet I have not found a version with English sub titles… may all enjoy it who understand Korean.

InMisaeng-Korean-Series-102014-1complete Life” is a 2014 South Korean drama series directed by Kim Won Suk. It is based on the popular online comic “Misaeng” by Yoon Tae Ho.

The plot…

Many of us had dreams when we were younger about the the life we want to lead when we grow up. For Jang Geu Rae (Si200997204e87f4f0621d6b1f09a62aab6f4e5908 (1)wan), it was to become a professional baduk player (a game that involves chess-like strategies and skills). But when his life took an unexpected turn and he couldn’t pursue his gaming plans, the down-and-out Geu Rae is forced to get an office job and goes to work as an intern at a large company. There, he feels like a fish out of water and relies heavily on the kindness of the reserved fellow intern Ahn Yeong Yi (Kang So Ra), tries to please his new boss, Section Chief Oh Sang Sik (Lee Sung Min), and keep up with the ambitious intern Jang Baek Gi (Kang Ha Neul). Geu Rae also faces animosity from the other interns because they think he is a nepotism hire — getting the highly coveted internship position with only a GED and no work experience. As Geu Rae tries to keep his head above water in the cubicle world, can he use the strategies from the game of baduk to survive in the corporate world?

Go in Movies: TOKYO NEWCOMER (Eng sub)

(09-11-2014) There is a fully movie with GO available.. Japanese go film **TOKYO NEWCOMER** in great quality on youtube, with English subtitles…

*The plot:* In Jiang Qinmin’s film, Chinese go genius Yoshiryu (Qin Hao) comes to Japan to hone his skills in the game, but finds he’s too busy earning a living to study go at all. One day, he meets an old woman hawking vegetables, who turns out to be a descendant of a prestigious go family.

“Written and directed by a Mainland Chinese, but utterly Japanese in look and feel, ‘Tokyo Newcomer’ is an engaging light drama centred on a young Chinese guy’s passion for the board game of go and his assimilation into the country which has made the (Chinese-invented) game into a national expression of its mindset. Go in Movies: THE STONE (2013)

Today 6th July 2014 i  fell over the trailer of “THE STONE” (2013, Korea)… an action movie of 110 minutes length being directed and produeced by CHO Se-rae.

timthumbCho Se-rae was born in Yecheon County of the North Gyeongsang Province of South Korea. After more than ten years of working as a novelist, scriptwriter, broadcast writer, and a member of a film crew in the Korean film production industry, so-called Chungmuro, CHO Se-rae decided to become a businessman due to hardships of life.

THE STONE is Cho Se-rae’s feature debut as a film director.

The story: A gang boss Nam-hae meets a young Go player Min-su, who rekindles his interest in the game.A gang boss Nam-hae meets a young Go player Min-su, who rekindles his interest in the game. Despite his outstanding talent, Min-su has been wasting his days as a gambler without pursuing a real career out of it. Nam-hae orders his second in command to persuade Min-su and Min-su becomes Nam-hae’s private Go tutor. In learning Go from Min-su, Nam-hae looks back on his own life. While Min-su discovers the coarse masculine underworld, the meaning of life and true victory through Nam-hae. However, when Nam-hae’s competition starts to expand their territory, Nam-hae is forced into a path to destruction. (seen @ KoBiz – Korean Film Biz Zone http://www.koreanfilm.or.kr)

In my view the bad of this movie: Again (as so often we know it from Hollywood) its about Criminal gangs and violence… it might give GO internationally a bad image as game of the underground, the Asian Mafia, illegal bets and corruption… The good thing: it has some philosophical aspects. – E.g. “If life is a game of GO, I wish I can place my first stone again.
